About the Gula Serien

Introduced in 1954, Gunnar Nylund's Gula Serien consists of eight ceramic pieces, including vases and bowls, characterized by their robust forms and bright yellow glaze. Each piece features a linear relief that enhances texture and depth, reflecting the craftsmanship and functional design ethos that defined mid-century Scandinavian ceramics.

The series represents Nylund's ability to create pieces that are both sculptural and functional, bringing artistic sensibility to everyday objects. The vibrant yellow color was bold for its time, adding warmth and optimism to Scandinavian interiors. The linear relief pattern creates visual and tactile interest, inviting interaction and appreciation of the handcrafted quality.

About the Designer: Gunnar Nylund

Gunnar Nylund (1904–1997) was one of Scandinavia's most influential ceramic artists and designers. Born in Paris to Finnish-Danish parents, he studied sculpture before turning to ceramics, bringing a sculptor's sensibility to his work.

Nylund worked at Rörstrand from 1931 to 1958, where he created some of the factory's most iconic designs. His work is characterized by organic forms, innovative glazing techniques, and a deep understanding of the relationship between form and surface. The Gula Serien exemplifies his ability to create pieces that are both artistically ambitious and functionally practical.

His designs are held in major museum collections worldwide and remain highly sought after by collectors for their artistic merit and historical significance in Scandinavian design.
