A sculptural piece of Swedish art glass designed by Vicke Lindstrand for Kosta, Sweden.
Signed LH 1898/227, this vintage vase features a tall, rectangular form with softly rounded edges and a substantial clear glass casing. At its centre, an amber-coloured glass core creates a striking contrast with the transparent outer layer, giving the piece depth and a rich interplay of light and colour.
Its architectural silhouette and warm amber tones reflect the expressive use of colour and material characteristic of mid-century Scandinavian glass design.

Story
About the Series
Vicke Lindstrand’s glass designs for Kosta explored the relationship between colour, transparency and sculptural form. By enclosing coloured glass within a clear outer layer, these pieces create depth and visual contrast, allowing light to interact with the different layers of glass. This vase reflects the expressive material approach associated with Swedish art glass of the mid-20th century.
About the Designer — Vicke Lindstrand
Vicke Lindstrand (1904–1983) was a Swedish artist and designer whose career encompassed glass, ceramics, textiles and sculpture. After working at Orrefors, Lindstrand joined Kosta in 1950 as artistic director. His work there explored the possibilities of colour, transparency, internal decoration and substantial glass forms, contributing to the development of Swedish art glass during the post-war period. His Kosta designs from the 1950s and 1960s include both sculptural pieces and more restrained vessels in which the properties of the glass itself become an essential part of the design.
About the Brand — Kosta Sweden
Kosta was founded in 1742 in the Swedish province of Småland and is one of Sweden’s historic glass manufacturers. During the 20th century, the glassworks became particularly associated with collaborations between skilled glassmakers and leading Swedish designers. Artists including Vicke Lindstrand played an important role in establishing Kosta’s reputation for Swedish art glass. The company’s mid-century production includes both functional glassware and more experimental pieces, with particular attention to colour, transparency and the possibilities of layered glass.
