A set of three clear crystal candle holders from the Cool series, designed by Kjell Engman for Kosta Boda in 1999.
The three pieces share a simple cylindrical form and are graduated in height. Their transparent crystal contains distinctive patterns of enclosed air bubbles, while subtle horizontal ridges across the outer surface add texture and create variations in the way light passes through the glass.
The substantial weight of the crystal gives the candle holders a strong presence, while their clear, geometric forms keep the overall expression light and contemporary. Each piece retains its original Kosta Boda label.
The three different heights can be displayed together as a group or individually.

Story
Cool is a group of clear glass candleholders designed by Kjell Engman for Kosta Boda in 1999.
The design is deliberately reduced, using simple cylindrical forms and substantial proportions. With no applied decoration or colour, the glass itself becomes the main visual element. Its transparency allows the surrounding light to pass through the body, while the thicker sections of glass create subtle changes in depth and reflection.
The three candleholders were produced in graduated heights, allowing them to be arranged together as a group. The variation in scale creates a simple rhythm while keeping the individual forms visually consistent.
The set includes the three sizes, approximately 14, 22 and 30 cm high, each measuring approximately 10 cm in diameter. The pieces are marked Kosta Boda.
About the Designer: Kjell Engman
Kjell Engman (born 1946) is a Swedish glass artist and designer whose career has been closely associated with Kosta Boda since 1978.
He studied at Konstfack in Stockholm before continuing his glass studies at Pilchuck in the United States. His work has developed across functional glass, sculpture and large-scale installations, with a broad range of subjects including nature, animals, music and everyday life.
Engman is known for his willingness to move between very different forms of expression. Some of his work is highly colourful and figurative, while other pieces are much more restrained, relying on the transparency, volume and physical qualities of glass.
Throughout his career, he has explored the relationship between craftsmanship and design, using traditional glassmaking techniques while developing forms that can range from small domestic objects to more ambitious artistic works.
His long association with Kosta Boda has made him an important figure in the development of Swedish glass design from the late 20th century onwards.
About the Brand: Kosta Boda
Kosta Boda has its origins in Kosta Glasbruk, founded in Småland in 1742. The glassworks was established in a region rich in forest resources, which were essential for firing the furnaces, and glassmaking subsequently became an important local industry.
Kosta’s history gradually developed from the manufacture of practical glassware towards a broader production that also placed considerable emphasis on design and artistic glass. During the 20th century, collaborations with artists became increasingly central to the identity of the glassworks.
The modern Kosta Boda name brings together the histories of three Swedish glassworks: Kosta, Boda and Åfors. Their development and eventual combination created one of Sweden’s most recognisable glassmaking companies, with a production that encompasses both functional objects and art glass.
The company has worked with several generations of Swedish and international artists and designers, giving them considerable freedom to explore colour, form, scale and different possibilities within glass.
Kosta Boda remains closely connected to Kosta in Småland, maintaining a glassmaking tradition that extends back more than two centuries and forms an important part of Sweden’s broader design and craft heritage.
