Story

About the Designer: Vicke Lindstrand

Vicke Lindstrand (1904–1983) is one of the central figures of 20th-century Swedish glass and a master of postwar Nordic design. Trained as an illustrator and ceramicist, he brought to glass a sensibility marked by line, form, and sculptural rhythm. At Kosta, Lindstrand developed a distinctive language of refined pieces with slender forms and controlled bubble details, transforming each vase into a small sculptural object. His work balanced technical precision and artistic sensitivity, consolidating his reputation as one of the great masters of modern Swedish glass.

About the Brand: Kosta

Founded in 1742, Kosta is Sweden's oldest operating glassworks and a pillar of the Glasriket, the historic "Glass Kingdom." During the mid-20th century, under the direction of designers like Lindstrand, Kosta established itself as a laboratory of modernity, incorporating innovative techniques and a creative approach that remains a reference point for Nordic art glass. Each Kosta piece combines artisanal tradition and technical experimentation, offering crystals of purity and balanced weight that reflect the serene and elegant aesthetic of Scandinavian design.

This vase, due to its rarity and uniqueness, is an outstanding example of that fusion of precision and material poetry. The controlled bubble—a technical and artistic detail—captures light and creates subtle visual interest, transforming a simple form into a sculptural presence. This is the kind of piece that celebrates the golden age of Swedish glass and becomes a treasured object in any collection.
