Story

About the Royal Series

The Royal series by Gefle is characterized by the use of vibrant colors and refined finishes, typical of Scandinavian aesthetics from the 1930s–1940s. The yellow glaze, combined with functional and elegant forms, turns each plate into a decorative and collectible piece. Although a specific designer cannot always be confirmed, many historians and collectors attribute the designs of this series to Arthur Percy, artistic director of Gefle at that time and responsible for introducing modern forms and classic decorations that defined the brand's identity.

About Arthur Percy

Arthur Percy (1886–1976) was a Swedish designer and artist who served as artistic director at Gefle Porslinsfabrik during the 1920s and 1930s. His work combined traditional craftsmanship with modernist sensibilities, creating pieces that were both functional and aesthetically refined. Percy's influence helped establish Gefle as a leading name in Swedish ceramic design, and his pieces are now highly sought after by collectors worldwide.

About Gefle Porslinsfabrik

Founded in 1910 in Gävle, Sweden, Gefle Porslinsfabrik was one of the country's most important porcelain manufacturers, known for uniting traditional craftsmanship and modern Scandinavian design. Its production combined functionality and aesthetics, creating pieces that today are highly valued by collectors and vintage design enthusiasts. In 1936, Gefle was integrated into the Upsala-Ekeby group, consolidating its position in the production of quality porcelain and distinctive design, which continues to be admired nearly a century later.

This Royal yellow plates set embodies the optimism and clarity of early Swedish modernism. The saturated yellow glaze—achieved through precise kiln control and artisanal expertise—transforms everyday dining into a celebration of color and form. Each plate carries the warmth of Scandinavian summers and the disciplined elegance of functionalist design, making them as relevant today as they were nearly a century ago. For collectors and design enthusiasts, these pieces offer a tangible connection to a golden era of Swedish ceramic art.

Care

Care Instructions

These plates are suitable for everyday use or display. We recommend gentle hand washing with mild soap and warm water to preserve the vibrant yellow glaze and prevent any potential crazing over time. If using a dishwasher, select a gentle cycle with moderate temperature and avoid harsh detergents or abrasive materials. Allow pieces to cool gradually after use and avoid sudden temperature changes. Store with soft padding between stacked plates to protect the glazed surfaces and prevent scratching.
